The second leg of this year’s Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) has taken place in Walsall with Londoner Sunny Chattha winning the main event in Walsall’s Grosvenor Casino.

The main event was the £1,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Freezeout.  The competition had a total prize fund of £301,000.

A total of 301 players took part with James Akenhead, Aaron Barry, Joe Grech, John Miller, Alan Trueick, Mickey Wernick and Senh Man Ung joining Sunny Chattha in the final table.

Senh Man Ung was the first player to leave the final table and was followed by James Akenhead, Mickey Wernick and Alan Trueick.

When the field was narrowed down to four, Sunny Chattha played some good poker to eliminate John Miller in fourth place and Aaron Barry into third.  Miller’s prize was £23,200 and Barry earned £35,500.

So, the heads-up would between Chattha and Joe Grech.  The two players were evenly matched as they entered the heads-up which was to last over 90 minutes.  For much of this heads-up encounter, the two players gambled small pots with the biggest pot being around 300,000 chips.  Chattha was however able to gradually build up a chip advantage and had three times the amount of chips that Grech had as the players entered the final hand of the competition.

On the final hand Grech had K-7 compared with Chattha’s A-7 and the flop, turn and the river were favourable to Chattha ensuring he became 2009 GUKPT Walsall Main Event Champion.

Chattha’s reward was the trophy, a place in the GUKPT Champion of Champions event, 150 GUKPT ranking points and a winner’s cheque of £88,150.  Grech’s consolation was £53,450 and 120 GUKPT ranking points.
Here is how the final table finished:

Sunny Chattha – £88,150
Joe Grech – £53,450
Aaron Barry – £35,500
John Miller – £23,200
Alan Trueick – £17,150
Mickey Wernick – £14,150
James Akenhead – £11,150
Senh Man Ung – £8,150.

The GUKPT hits the capital next with leg three of the tour coming to London’s Grosvenor Victoria Casino later this month
