In difficult times online gambling providers are trying different strategies to boost business.
While no one is willing to suggest the level of participation on online games has reached anything near saturation point in the UK new means of reaching the target audience are being investigated.
This week online casino software providers Barriere Interactive Gaming have revealed that they are in the latter stages of producing a new game that will be able to link gaming consoles with online capabilities, such as the PlayStation Portable (PSP) or the Xbox, to online casinos.
The new technology would be a massive boost to the industry though there are many hurdles which will have to be overcome before punters can sit down, turn on their television and play to win.
If the link is established it will allow video gamers to play at online casinos via their televisions in much the same way as they play existing games.
The game will be complete by the end of next month; however Microsoft and Sony are yet to give the go-ahead for online gaming to be introduced on their consoles. One of the main concerns will be minors buying the games – despite most games having an age certificate, realistically there is nothing to stop a 12-year-old playing an 18-rated game that his parents bought him.
Currently online casinos perform background checks on their players.
However companies such as Barriere could argue that parental control is already sought for a host of video games which are violent in nature and similar methods of vigilance could be adapted to online gambling games.
