This year’s Wimbledon tennis tournament begins in less than a week and bookmakers are taking many bets on the outcome.
The favourite in the mens singles is Roger Federer who recently made tennis history by winning this year’s French Open – which was a record equalling 14th grand slam title. Federer is chasing his 6th Wimbledon title and Betdaq together with Betfair currently have him at a price of 17/13* to win this year’s Wimbledon and become the player with the most grand slam titles to his name in history.
There is a good chance of there being a British winner in the mens singles for the first time since Fred Perry in the 1930s. Andy Murray will be flying the flag for Britain and is second favourite to take the title. He has had good preparation for the tournament as he won the Aegon Championships at Queens Club on Sunday – a tournament which is dubbed the Wimbledon warm-up. You will get a price of 17/10* with expect.com on Murray winning Wimbledon.
Defending champion Rafael Nadal has injury problems which he sustained during the French Open and it is for this reason that bookmakers are only making him third favourite to defend his title. Nadal has said he will only play at Wimbledon if he is 100 percent fit. You will currently get the best price on Nadal winning this year’s Wimbledon at 5/1* from expekt.com.
Novak Djokovic is the fourth favourite with bookmakers. WBX and Betdaq are both offering a price of 31/2* on the Serbian winning his first Wimbledon title. Andy Roddick who had to pull out of Queens Club with an injury is 43/1* to win Wimbledon with Betfair as is Juan Martin del Potro also with Betfair. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is 45/1* with Betfair. American James Blake who made the final at Queens Club is a 200/1* shot with a number of bookmakers including Betfred, Sky Bet and Coral.
In the womens singles Serena Williams is the favourite with bookmakers. You will currently get odds of 11/4* on Serena being 2009 Wimbledon champion with Totesport and Boylesports.
The second favourite is Serena’s older sister Venus who is aiming to become the first female player to win three Wimbledon singles titles in a row since Steffi Graf did in 1993. Currently Betdaq are offering odds of 23/5* on Venus Williams lifting the trophy for the third year in a row.
Maria Sharapova is the third favourite and is priced at 44/5* with Betfair to take her second Wimbledon title. Of the rest, Dinara Safina is 11/1* with Totesport and Stan James whereas former champion Amelie Mauresmo is 103/1* with Betdaq.
